Patrick emailed us to ask if we'd make him a CD. His request list was so cute, because it was exemplary of his position in life right now. He asked for a few songs he'd heard on the radio that he liked, and then a whole bunch of songs that only his parents could possibly have exposed him to (I don't really remember them now, but they were old songs and folk songs and stuff - I think Jim Croce was on the list). He also asked for 3 or 4 songs from Broadway musicals (a la Kelly). He's just discovering popular music, but like people who are 12, most of what he knows is the other stuff his parents know, or that he remembers Ryan or Kelly listening to. :)
We offered to make him a couple of CDs, one with things like musical music and another of pop/rock stuff. We're having fun figuring out what he would like, and which Good Things to Expose Him To so that he Will Appreciate Good Music. The music also has to be fairly PG and not too annoying to his parents, since if it's anything like the last music we gave him, he will play it All The Time until Cindy begs us to give him something new. ;)
Some of our selections to add to his list:
John Mayer - No SUch Thing
Vanessa Carleton - 1000 Miles
Dobie Gray - Drift Away
Indigo Girls - Least Complicated or Galileo
The Corrs - When the Stars Go Blue
Counting Crows - Murder of One
Foo Fighters - Next Year
Paul Oakenfold - Starry-eyed Surprise
