i got a package from raaachel today! it is so cool. :) tomorrow if i have time before we leave, i will take pictures of what was inside and show it off. hee hee. :)

if we wait for the time
when our souls get it right
then at least i know there'll be no
nuclear annihilation
in my lifetime

My headache got me to bed at 10:45 last night. That's the earliest I've gone to bed in...months, since we were in Florida, I think. I feel rested. ;)

Patrick emailed us to ask if we'd make him a CD. His request list was so cute, because it was exemplary of his position in life right now. He asked for a few songs he'd heard on the radio that he liked, and then a whole bunch of songs that only his parents could possibly have exposed him to (I don't really remember them now, but they were old songs and folk songs and stuff - I think Jim Croce was on the list). He also asked for 3 or 4 songs from Broadway musicals (a la Kelly). He's just discovering popular music, but like people who are 12, most of what he knows is the other stuff his parents know, or that he remembers Ryan or Kelly listening to. :)

We offered to make him a couple of CDs, one with things like musical music and another of pop/rock stuff. We're having fun figuring out what he would like, and which Good Things to Expose Him To so that he Will Appreciate Good Music. The music also has to be fairly PG and not too annoying to his parents, since if it's anything like the last music we gave him, he will play it All The Time until Cindy begs us to give him something new. ;)

Some of our selections to add to his list:

John Mayer - No SUch Thing
Vanessa Carleton - 1000 Miles
Dobie Gray - Drift Away
Indigo Girls - Least Complicated or Galileo
The Corrs - When the Stars Go Blue
Counting Crows - Murder of One
Foo Fighters - Next Year
Paul Oakenfold - Starry-eyed Surprise

happy anniversary to us! :)

Friday, July 25, 2003

may i just take this moment to say that phone calls to doctors and insurance companies are the most impossible phone calls to make. either you can't get a hold of them, or they say they'll call you back and then don't, or you have to drag information out of them. i have made about 10 phone calls so far - and Ryan's made a few too - and i am still only halfway through the necessary processes for one simple thing. i have a time limit here, people, and i don't need blood from you - just a phone call and 5 minutes of your time.

thank you, i feel better now. /rant

i'm feeling kind of punchy today.

i really want to do the blogathon on Saturday, but it's our anniversary weekend and we had a bunch of stuff planned. if i could figure out how to do everything, i would. but people, you can still sign up! RAINN is a popular charity among blogathoners, and it's probably what I would have picked if I was going to do it. I'm still kind of thinking about it, but...

I feel like I'm coming out or something ;) but, this is my most recent menstrual blood painting. I use my Keeper to collect the blood, and mix it with a little red tempera paint to keep it fresh looking. I really liked this one. I'm sorry if it scares you, but I wanted to share it anyway. :) I will put up more at my photoblog if anyone is interested in seeing some of my others.

I think I remember enough belly dancing steps and things to practice a little now. I just tried it to hip hop. :)

and one more:

They preach that I should save the world
They pray that I won't do a better job of it
Pray that I won't do a better job

(dar, "are you out there")

Its all on little soundbytes and voices out of photographs
And that's all yours, that's the guide, that's the map
So tell me, where does the arrow point to?
Who invented roses?"

This made me laugh until I couldn't breathe. Please go look, you will thank me, for introducing you to the world of disturbingly silly 50s art involving celery and bizarre drafts. Be sure to read the commentary. :)

Top Ten Reasons...

(So it is written for NOW's 2003 conference, but it's relevant in many other ways.)

we had dinner at this place called crazy burger this weekend, and it made me think of francesca lia block. it had vegan burgers and homemade ketchup and we ate outside, where there were vines and white christmas lights and fountains and random things like birthday ribbon and windchimes everywhere. if you are a fan of FLB, come see me and we will go to crazy burger and you will see! ;)

"I don't really like to talk about my flair."

--Jennifer Aniston's character (the waitress) in Office Space

(I thought of this because our favorite Dunkin' Donuts girl was wearing flair last night! :) ALso if you do not know what flair is in this context, you need to see Office Space.)
