I just found out that Ani Difranco is releasing a new album in September. This album is a 2 disc set, and it is entitled "So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter".
It is a mix of new and old songs. One disc is of angrier songs, one of lighter songs. Where have we seen this before?
I like Ani, but I just saw that and groaned. And I like Ani, but I've noticed a problem with her, a problem for me anyway: I find that she really romanticizes things like being used and abused, and making the same mistakes over and over, and things like that. I don't really think that jives with her being a feminist, although I think it's supposed to. And a lot of younger girls really take her to heart, and I think it's something they romanticize and sort of emulate - like being unhappy is somehow poetic, more so than being joyful. ( But I'm not saying Ani doesn't sing about joy too, or that joy is the only thing one should sing about!)
Right now though, I'm listening to "Fuel" and thinking of singing it on the swingsets with Kelly. :)
