i always picture christina taylor, and i picture her hands fitting too. :)

I had a big quizzie thing up here, but I didn't like how it stretched out my blog with it's giant graphic. so, all gone now. :)

We saw Matrix Reloaded at the IMAX theater in Providence last night.

IMAX is really freaking cool. The screen was 60 feet high and 89 feet wide, and the sound system was incredible. Also, the picture was so clear and huge that you could see everyone's pores - and let me tell you, compared to every single other actor in that film, Jada Pinkett-Smith has perfectly smooth and flawless skin. It's a little weird. They warn you at the beginning that you might feel dizzy or like you're moving since the screen is so big. It only happened to me once, in the highway scene, when Trinity turns around and dodges the agents in the police car by veering into traffic.

Whoo. :)

you're right, jaemi, this is a good one ;) i guess beauty is sort of an emotion, right?
You Are Beauty
You are Beauty.

You are beautiful, whether it be on the inside, the outside, or both. People are drawn to you as strongly as you are drawn to the beauty in the world around you.

U.S. Supreme Court Strikes Down Texas ‘Homosexual Conduct’ Law

Or, in the words of a fellow LJer: COURT TELLS TEXANS WHERE TO STICK IT (although actually, in this case, the court told them they can all stick it wherever they want!)

Hooray for the government butting out of our sex lives. And in the words of another LJ/ifmudder, "yay for sodomy!" ;)

i am so hot i am literally in tears.

i need some dinner, and a fan, and a swim or a cold shower. *whine*

Basically, the RIAA has decided it's going to track down each and every person that actively uses Kazaa and issue them a summons for illegal file trading.

I hope they do, and I hope that rather than settling, tens of thousands of people take it to court. It would amuse me to see them try and handle that.

In the meantime, if you're a big downloader (edit: they're actually saying they're going after big *sharers*, which is probably not an issue for many people), you might want to avoid Kazaa for a while.

Meanwhile, fight the RIAA! Also, send musicians donations of money through musiclink.com.

So ends today's public service message/commentary.

my favorite card at all that matters says:

dance as though no one is watching

i just made $50 for having blood drawn! it took two minutes. whoo! :)

Monday, June 23, 2003

turns out i missed some skinny dipping yesterday, and for that i am truly sorry. i want to go skinny dipping!

Ryan and I discussing groceries and things, and what we should make for dinner this week:

(14:56:55) sarahmchinchilla: how about green bean soup?
(14:57:06) ryanfreebern: HOW ABOUT IT?
(14:57:10) ryanfreebern: You mean with potatoes?
(14:57:23) sarahmchinchilla: yes, sure! :)
(14:57:30) ryanfreebern: Okay. :)
(14:57:40) sarahmchinchilla: okay! :)
(14:57:55) ryanfreebern: "Forever" doesn't mean "until the next time I eat bean & potato soup." -- Kelly

That is one of my favorite Kelly quotes. :)

Oh and also:

15:02:15) sarahmchinchilla: also, i was thinking - wanna make stuffed shells? do you like them?
(15:02:25) ryanfreebern: What are they stuffed with? Mud?
(15:02:34) ryanfreebern: I don't like mud.
(15:03:03) sarahmchinchilla: with ricotta cheese and herbs and stuff. :)
(15:03:09) sarahmchinchilla: no mud, i promise!
(15:03:11) ryanfreebern: Oh okay. :)
(15:03:15) ryanfreebern: Much better than mud!
(15:03:22) sarahmchinchilla: i would have to agree!

I really liked this LJ post on social responsibility that someone on my friend's list wrote. I thought some of you might enjoy it too.

I loved this:

on vaginapagina on LJ, someone asked this question: "is there any approved/available form of male contraceptive other than vasectomy (that's the one that's normally reversible right?) or condoms? why the hell not?! :("

someone explained why - in short, because pharmaceutical companies do not have the financial incentive to take male contraception seriously since they making plenty of money on the pill, and because no one's giving the research dollar for male contraception. people say it's more difficult, but it's only more difficult to develop hormonal methods, while there are easier ones (such as heat) available and men's fertility or lack thereof is easier to test.

in response to that, someone else said:

"i'm glad someone debunked the fallacy of "it's just easier this way". saves me time, energy, and the extreme pissed-offness i'd experience if doing so myself.

let's play a game where the above were true -- and it were simply a matter of being 'easier' only controlling women's fertility. who the @$#^& cares?? we can develop tomatoes the size of office buildings and glow-in-the dark fish, but limiting the production of sperm is a huge impasse? give me a flying break.

well, so much for not getting pissed off."

heh. :)

last night we went to warwick, and had dinner and drooled over books at barnes and noble. if we weren't driving to NY around 4 tomorrow morning, i would have been tempted to go to the harry potter party at midnight tomorrow and buying the book then like all the other crazy people. :)

things i wanted:

i was a teenage fairy by francesca lia block - because i have the Dangerous Angels compilation, and Teenage Fairy is my favorite non-Weetzie Bat book by Block. I also looked at the Rose and the Beast longingly.

body art something, it was random book i picked up that had a lot of cool, non-permanent ideas in it. it made me want to paint myself colors. ;)

guide to getting it on - recommended to me several times as a really useful/enlightened sex/health/BC reference, and it's so cute too ;) and only $20 there, despite it's being a Big Book.

leather journals - there are a bunch of little leather journals with nice, blank, aged-looking pages. there were several i wanted. i always have this poetic fantasy of carrying one with me everywhere and wearing the cover soft, but i don't know that that would actually happen.

the latest copy of adbusters with flip sides, one side being "pre-emptive war is necessary" and all content therein reflecting that, the other side being "preemptive war is terrorism". it was awesome.

Barnes and Noble doesn't have music or DVDs, and I missed them. For our anniversary, Ryan and I are planning on buying ourselves Buffy season 4. It just came out this month and I wanted to look at it - I am so excited. :)

i just ate the best brownie ever.

it was s chocolate raspberry cream cheese brownie from the bakery on main street. there was an orgasm in every bite. oooooh. :) (and yes, i am overwhelmed now, having eaten the whole thing. :))

Tuesday, June 17, 2003

today i've been creating myself an imaginary wardrobe
and wishing i had the money to make it real.
i'm thinking about cutting up one of the shirts i have and making something out of it.
so often, i have all this creative energy writhing around inside me, and no real way to let it out.

We went to Waterfire last night. Pictures here! :)

Saturday, June 14, 2003

rachel, if you pick nantucket you'll be semi-close to me! :) (well, you know, a couple hours by car instead of a 3 hour flight away :)). Obviously, that's a good reason to choose Nantucket! :)

I don't know though. Your other choices are really great too (even without me!). I know what you're going through trying to decide.

i think i want to go to italy. with that in mind, now i have to figure out if i can afford to/get a loan or a grant for it, if and when i can go according to the credits i need to graduate, and so on. I'm afraid it may have to wait until a summer during grad school, but I'm not sure of my class credit situation right now (i only need certain classes and very few of them, so i don't know). Hmmph.

Mr. President Smartypants managed to fall off a Segway on vacation in Maine. For those of you who don't know anything about Segways...they're pretty much scooters that um, you don't fall off of. They stay up on their own, more or less. I love the picture at the bottom of the article. :)

Friday, June 13, 2003

yay! i just took care of:

paying the rent
arranging my term bill for school
finding out how to get enrollment verificiation to my loan companies
started making a grocery list with ryan (on the menu for this week so far: potato latkes, curried chickpea stuff, ratatoulie, popsicles :))

now i am drinking decaf tazo lotus green tea (with essence of lotus - it smells so pretty, and thank you ally and tom :))

This IM from Ryan made my morning:

11:52:01) ryanfreebern: I also sent this to my parents: I stopped for coffee this morning on the way to work, and when I walked into the coffeeshop an older couple, probably in their 60's, called me over to their table and said, "Is that really an electric car?" So I explained about hybrids to them, and they were utterly fascinated and had all sorts of questions for me. The man asked, "So does it switch to all electric when you're just cruising along at 95 miles per hour?" I had to tell him that I'd never tried cruising along at 95 miles per hour! Crazy Rhode Island drivers!

Eep! :)

If you're female, go take the porn survey for PBS' Frontline. Women are really underrepresented in the survey, and y'know, we don't want that. For those of you who are porn virgins, that's okay, they want to know about that too. :) There's also another survey you can take after, on sexuality in general. It looks intimidating, but it only took me 10-15 minutes or so.

I hate the ad for those Tampax Compacts or whatever they're called, the tampons that are wrapped up really small. In the ad, the girl spills her purse, and the boy she's with asks what the tampon package is or something, and she tells him it's a sugar packet. Way to go, Tampax or whichever one you are. Thanks for instilling the shame of menstruation in yet more girls (and women), and making them think they can't expect men, especially their boyfriends, to be able to handle the fact that they bleed and that they carry tampons in their purses.

I want to start a progressive advertising company. Or something. Maybe buy every girl in the world a Keeper, a copy of the Vagina Monologues, and a hand mirror, along with a healthy dose of love and self-respect.

You are Trinity-
You are Trinity, from "The Matrix."

What Matrix Persona Are You?

Oh Trinity, I <3 thee. :)

I woke up this morning with 'Daisy Dead Petals" in my head. Odd.

dancing on a dime,
hearing mother cry
maybe she's around the corner

got a crack in
got a crack in some strange places
on my back with
on my back with some dirty dishes

Stolen from tablesaw's LJ :

Morissey, former singer of The Smiths, who originally wrote and performed the song "How Soon Is Now?" in 1984 had this to say about t.A.T.u. in the U.K.'s Word Magazine:

Word: Did you hear t.A.T.u.'s version of "How Soon Is Now?"

Morissey: Yes, it was magnificent. Absolutely. Again, I don't know much about them.

Word: They are teenage Russian lesbians.

Morissey: Well, aren't we all?

:D

rach,
your 80s CD list brought a few holes in our collection to my attention. Thanks for inspiring a small 80s downloading spree. (and getting 'here in my car' thoroughly stuck in my head :P :))

I scored a 42% on the "Are you a Rhode Islandah?" Quizie! What about you?

I only got a 42 because I don't drive like a Rhode Islander, nor did I ever vote for Buddy Cianci (since by the time I moved here, he was pretty much on trial :)). Heh heh. :)

Reading the ifMUD:

liza says, "I do not recognize this shining ball of light in the sky"

All I have to say about this is YAY! :)

i love the world :)

See the other Tom and Ally pictures from this weekend here :)

(11:54:29) sarahmchinchilla: heh, i sold a 2 dollar book on half.com :P
(11:54:45) ryanfreebern: WOO
(11:54:56) ryanfreebern: TWO DOLLA BILL Y'ALL

Yay, it's Ghetto Ryan! :)

looking for a job...

bagelz doesn't need me. the library doesn't need me. RI Book Co. doesn't need me. All That Matters needs someone, but not me (they need someone full time and year-round). I could just work at the co-op a few hours a week, but that's just for a discount there.

There are a million listings for part time jobs driving(?) yachts and working on lobster boats. They're not looking for me, however. Eh.

I just want a little job at somewhere I like a few days a week. Somewhere I can walk (or possibly take the bus) to. That doesn't seem so impossible, does it? :)

For Ally:

From an interview with Ellen DeGeneres about her role in Finding Nemo:

"When it came time to record Dory talking whale, Andrew said: 'Just talk whale'. I'm pretty certain he thought I'd be baffled, but I wasn't.

"There was a girl who lived next door to me who used to do her yoga to whale albums. It used to drive me crazy, but that experience served me well for Finding Nemo."

I thought that was cute. :)

allypony and tom left this morning. we had fun :) pictures coming soon of ally in her new dress and also she and tom frolicking in the ocean!
